Het verhaal achter House of Cranes

Sommige meubels vertellen hun verhaal zonder woorden.

Toen ik dit oude dressoir vond, zag ik niet alleen een meubelstuk dat een opknapbeurt kon gebruiken. Ik zag karakter. De vorm, de sierlijke lijnen en vooral de sporen van een lang leven maakten meteen duidelijk dat dit meubel al een geschiedenis had.

Krasjes in het hout, kleine beschadigingen en verkleuringen waren overal zichtbaar. Voor mij waren dat geen imperfecties die moesten verdwijnen. Het waren juist de details die het meubel interessant maakten.

Ik wilde het verleden daarom niet uitwissen, maar er iets nieuws aan toevoegen.

Van vintage dressoir naar House of Cranes

Tijdens het creatieve proces ontstond het idee voor kraanvogels. De kraanvogel staat in veel culturen symbool voor onder andere geluk, trouw, elegantie en een lang leven. Een betekenis die prachtig aansluit bij het idee achter House of Velour: een bestaand meubel een nieuw leven geven.

Ik koos voor diepe, mysterieuze paarstinten, gecombineerd met rijke gouden details en een botanische print waarin de kraanvogels centraal staan.

Langzaam veranderde het oude dressoir in House of Cranes.

Het mooie is dat het oorspronkelijke meubel nog steeds herkenbaar is. De lijnen, de vorm en zelfs een deel van zijn karakter zijn behouden. Maar de uitstraling is volledig veranderd.

Waar ooit een vergeten vintage dressoir stond, staat nu een uitgesproken statement piece.

Het verleden mag zichtbaar blijven

Dat is misschien wel wat ik het mooiste vind aan het werken met vintage meubels.

Ik hoef de geschiedenis niet weg te werken om iets moois te creëren. Integendeel. Juist de combinatie van oude sporen en een nieuwe interpretatie maakt ieder stuk uniek.

House of Cranes is daardoor niet alleen een gerestyled meubel. Het is een ontmoeting tussen verleden en heden.

Een meubel dat al een leven achter zich heeft, krijgt een nieuw hoofdstuk.

En dat is precies waar House of Velour voor staat:

Niet vervangen. Niet vergeten. Maar hercreëren.

The Story Behind House of Cranes

Some pieces of furniture tell their story without saying a word.

When I found this old vintage sideboard, I didn't simply see a piece of furniture that needed restoring. I saw character. Its shape, elegant lines and, most of all, the marks of a long life immediately caught my attention.

Scratches in the wood, small imperfections and areas of discolouration were visible throughout the piece. To me, these weren't flaws that needed to disappear. They were part of what made the furniture interesting.

I didn't want to erase its past. I wanted to build something new upon it.

From Vintage Sideboard to House of Cranes

During the creative process, the idea of cranes began to take shape. In many cultures, the crane is associated with happiness, loyalty, elegance and longevity. A symbolism that felt perfectly suited to the philosophy behind House of Velour: giving an existing piece of furniture a new life.

I chose deep, mysterious shades of purple, combined with rich golden details and a botanical design in which the cranes take centre stage.

Slowly, the old sideboard became House of Cranes.

What I love most is that the original piece is still recognisable. Its shape, lines and some of its character have been preserved, while its entire personality has been transformed.

Where there was once a forgotten vintage sideboard, there is now a statement piece.

Let the Past Remain Visible

Perhaps this is what I love most about working with vintage furniture.

I don't need to erase its history to create something beautiful. Quite the opposite. It is the combination of old marks and a new interpretation that makes each piece unique.

House of Cranes is therefore more than a transformed piece of furniture. It is a meeting between past and present.

A piece that has already lived one life is given the opportunity to begin another.

And that is at the heart of House of Velour:

Don't replace it. Don't forget it. Reimagine it.
